Saint John Vianney was ordained in 1815 and put under the guidance of father Charles Balley in Ecully, France. He had failed his examination twice before
entering the priesthood and, years earlier, had a disastrous stint in Napolean's army. After the death of the father Balley, father John was assigned to St. Sixtus Parish in Ars, where he would spend the rest of his life serving God on earth
